Our Promise

Our commitment to excellence is assured. We aim to breed the best European bloodlines possible in New Zealand. We believe that our business should be grounded on honsety and we aim to produce a top quality product, raised in a clean, green environment.

Mount View Sport Horses Ltd (MVSH) is situated in the Bay of Plenty on the outskirts of Tauranga, sitting in the foothills overlooking the Harbour and Mount Maunganui. The stud is owned and operated by the Keddell family, and is located just off State Highway 2 in Whakamarama, 25 mins from the city.

The stud consists of two main properties - Mount View and Hill Top. Mount View is a 40 acre property with both flat and rolling pasture and is where the stud is based. This property houses the stallions, competition horses and weanlings, and is where the mares are foaled. Hill Top consists of 150 acres of hills and flats on which we run and grow our young stock, and broodmares before they foal. Raising our youngstock on the undulating country builds strength and stamina and creates co-ordination. Goats and cattle are also run on this farm.

Our facilities include

MVSH was established in 2002 with the aim of developing a high quality breeding programme. We recognised the need for an injection of performance based bloodlines from Europe to accelerate our breeding programme. We believe that this will improve New Zealand 's ability to compete internationally and that is why we have gone for the best!

The two foundation sires of MVSH are imported from Europe, Senator VDL (Corland) and PicoBello (Calvados). Both stallions are Dutch Warmbloods.

Senator VDL comes from the famous Van Der Lageweg (VDL) Stud in Holland , which is currently producing some of the best show jumping horses in the world today. These two stallions bring outstanding qualities into New Zealand breeding.

MVSH purchased 4 outstanding quality mares from proven European bloodlines to establish a breeding program. We also have a limited number of NZ bred mares which derive from the best NZ Bloodlines such as Distlefink, Voltaire and Silent Hunter to name a few. Our goal is to breed top quality warmbloods, which cater for both the National and International markets. We primarily want to breed jumpers but always strive to produce an athletic, intelligent horse that can excel in different disciplines. We consider temperament and jumping ability to be paramount, but correctness and rideability are also factors we wish to focus on.
